Written in 2001, this is an investigation into the performance of the Rijndael AES symmetric cipher algorithm... with graphs... pretty graphs!
Abstract:
"Rijndael is the name of a new encryption algorithm sanctioned by the National Institute for
Standards and Technology. This investigation briefly describes how the algorithm works and then
explains a methodology for testing its performance. Sufficient data has been gathered to enable
conclusions to be drawn regarding the algorithms performance in relation to differing key and block
length scenarios and to different levels and types of optimisations. This undertaking reveals any
potential performance pitfalls and offers a valuable insight into the algorithms performance
characteristics. Conclusions are drawn in section 9 whilst raw data tables are presented in Appendix
10.4. Not only do the results obtained fit well with those obtained in other studies of Rijndael but
they also clearly demonstrate where performance bottlenecks lie."Download the full 93 page report. |
