You may have noticed the recent mp3 player addition to the site over on the right hand navigation bar under Recent Playlist. It plays drum'n'bass you know... It has been around for the last few months but has been suffering from slight problems in that the mp3 files which it plays tend to disappear without notice. Typically they are hundreds of megabytes in size and are often hosted on less than reliable servers. You need a fast Internet connection to get the most out of this and even then, the tracks sometimes take up to 60s to start playing. The source data comes from Google Reader - when I find a good tune or set which I want to bookmark, I simply click to star this item and of course it then appears in my starred items. Whilst this information is also available as a feed, I use a customised version of the open source XSPF player which accepts XSPF playlists. So I have a PHP script which munges the ATOM feed into my XSPFplaylist, ready for use by the player. So give it a try. I make no apologies for its content; if you don't like drum'n'bass don't press play. You download any track it plays by right clicking and selecting Download this song. Here are the ten most recent ten tracks in the playlist which you can of course subscribe to yourself. Following many requests, you should expect a Google gadget to appear here soon which plays mp3s from a feed. :-) For more d&b resources, check out the www.FindJungle.com Custom Search Engine or my mixes available for download . |
